Durga Puja being celebrated smoothly in Rangpur

RANGPUR, Oct 18, 2018 (BSS) – Bangalee Hindu community have been
celebrating their biggest religious festival Durga Puja with due religious
fervour, gaiety and enthusiasm on the fourth day today in Rangpur.

Thousands of devotees are thronging Puja mandaps on the ‘Mahanabomi’
today to have a glimpse of Goddess Durga and seek her blessings for their
well-being and fortune.

Deputy Inspector General (DIG) for Rangpur Range Devdas Bhattacharya
said special security measures have been taken with deployment of police, RAB
and Ansar- VDP members to ensure peaceful celebrations of Durga Puja all over
Rangpur division.

Acting President of Rangpur district unit of Bangladesh Puja Udjapon
Parishad (BPUP) Ajoy Prasad Babon said local units of BPUP have also taken
steps to ensure peaceful celebrations of the five-day Durga Puja.

“The celebrations will end through immersion of the idols erected in
Puja mandaps after celebration of the ‘Moha Dashami’ tomorrow (Friday),” he
added.

Divisional Commissioner Mohammad Joynul Bari, DIG Devdas Bhattacharya,
Rangpur Metropolitan Police Commissioner Abdul Alim Mahmud, Commanding
Officer of Rangpur RAB-13 Battalion Mozammel Haque, Deputy Commissioners,
Police Supers and other officials and local leaders of BPUP are visiting the
Puja mandaps.

The Puja mandap premises and adjoining areas have worn eye-catching
looks and huge sales of cottage industry products, handicrafts, toys,
household goods, sweets and other things are being witnessed in the
traditional fairs there.

The colorfully decorated and illuminated Puja mandap premises have
become heavily crowded since Wednesday afternoon and overcrowded at nights,
amid tight security measures.

An all-time record number of 5,265 Durga Puja mandaps have been erected
in Rangpur, Nilphamari, Lalmonirhat, Kurigram, Gaibandha, Panchagarh,
Thakurgaon and Dinajpur districts in the division this year.

The district administrations distributed 500-kg of rice among each of
the 5,265 Puja mandap authorities in the division to celebrate the greatest
festival this year.

Acting District Relief and Rehabilitation Officer of Rangpur Abul Hayat
said 469 tonnes of rice was distributed among 938 Puja mandaps to celebrate
the Durga Puja in the district.

Talking to BSS today, devotees at different Puja mandaps expressed
satisfaction over security measures taken by the administrations for offering
prayers, Puja, archana, kirtons and other religious rituals peacefully.

Similar reports on smooth and peaceful celebrations of the Durga Puja
festival have been received here from Panchagarh, Thakurgaon, Dinajpur,
Nilphamari, Lalmonirhat, Kurigram and Gaibandha districts in Rangpur
division.
