Agriculture exports increases by 97.31pc in three months: Tofail

DHAKA, Oct 16, 2018 (BSS) – Commerce Minister Tofail Ahmed today said exports of the agriculture products grew by 97.31 percent in the last three months compared to the previous three months in this year.

“The country is now self-sufficient in food production. After the Liberation War, the production of food for 7.50 crore people was 1.10 crore tonnes, but now the production is over four crore tonnes for the 16 core people,” he said.

The minister was speaking as the chief guest at an inauguration session of the three-day “Food Fair” at the Krishibid Institution Bangladesh in the city, said a press release.

Agriculture Minister Begum Matia Chowdhury was present as the special guest at the function.

Tofail said Bangladesh has achieved food sufficiency for adoption of modern technology in the agriculture sector particularly during the regime of the present government. “The government is providing cash incentive to the exporters,” he added.

Senior Secretary of the Planning Ministry Dr Shamsul Islam presented the key note speech while Secretary in Charge of the Agriculture Ministry M Nasiruzzaman presided over the function.
