DU to remember Jagannath Hall tragedy day tomorrow

DHAKA, Oct 14, 2018 (BSS) – The Dhaka University (DU) authorities will
remember the mourning day of October 15, popularly known Jagannath Hall
tragedy day, tomorrow in a befitting manner.

The day is observed every year to pay homage to the memory of the
students, employees and guests, who were killed in a tragic accident in
Jagannath Hall on the fateful night of 15th October, 1985.

On that night, the roof of the dilapidated building of the Jagannath Hall
TV room collapsed, leaving 39 students, guests and employees of the
University dead and hundreds others injured.

Marking the tragedy, the DU authorities have chalked out a series of
programmes, including mourning procession, placing wreaths at the memorial on
the Jagannath Hall premises, hoisting black flags and university flag at half
mast at all buildings, offering special prayers at different halls and
donating blood.

DU teachers, students and officials will take part in the mourning
procession which will start from the foot of Aparajeyo Bangla at 7:30 am.

Apart from this, ‘October Memory Composition Competition’ and ‘October
Memory Drawing Competition’ will also be organized on the day.
