BNP doesn’t believe in independence: Speakers

DHAKA, Oct 11, 2018 (BSS) – Speakers at a roundtable discussion today said BNP had repeatedly tried to eliminate pro-liberation force Awami League as it (BNP) does not believe in the country’s independence and liberation war.

Citizen for Responsible Democracy arranged the roundtable titled “verdict of August 21 grenade attack: crisis of legacy of BNP” at a Gulshan hotel here.

Awami League Joint General Secretary Mahbub-ul-Alam Hanif, Suchinta Foundation Chairman Mohammad A Arafat, human right activist Kushi Kabir, AL Deputy Office Secretary Barrister Biplab Barua, Professor Mesbah Kamal, journalists Syed Ishtiaque Reza, Shyamal Dutta, Mozammel Babu and Majurul Islam, Barrister Toukir Ahmed, Advocate Nurjahan Begum, Security Analyst Major General (retd) Mohamamd Ali Shikdar, Actress Rokeya Prachy and AL leader Rasheq Rahman, among others, spoke on the occasion.

The speakers said the court verdict in the August 21 grenade attack cases again has proved BNP men were involvement in the gruesome attack carried out on a rally of Awami League on August 21, 2004.

Mahbub-ul-Alam Hanif said BNP could not come out from the politics of falsehood as they rejected the verdict on August 21 grenade attack cases.

The people of the country expected that BNP would come back to the right track of politics by seeking pardon over the August 21 grenade attack, he said.

But BNP, he said, did not do that and they made falsehood over the issue. August 21 grenade attack was made in a coordinated way and BNP cannot deny its responsibility, he added.
