Road crash kills LGED’s addl chief engineer in Dinajpur

RANGPUR, Oct 11, 2018 (BSS) – Additional Chief Engineer for
Rangpur Zone of the Local Government and Engineering
Department (LGED) Engineer Afzalur Rahman was killed in a
road accident at Chirirbandar upazila of Dinajpur district
today, police said.

The accident occurred when a jeep carrying Engineer Rahman
from Rangpur to Dinajpur hit a roadside tree after its driver
lost control over the steering at Uchitpur point on the
Rangpur-Dinajpur highway of the upazila at 9:15 am.

“Engineer Rahman, 59, was killed on the spot and driver of
the jeep Mohammad Hafiz, 50, was seriously injured in the
accident,” Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Chirirbandar Thana Md
Haresul Islam told BSS.

Being informed, police rushed to the spot, recovered the
body, rescued the injured driver and sent him to Dinajpur
Abdur Rahim Medical College Hospital.

Engineer Rahman was going to Dinajpur to attend the
videoconferencing of Prime Minsiter Sheikh Hasina scheduled
to be held at the Deputy Commissioner’s conference room at 10
am in Dinajpur district town when the accident occurred.

“After completing legal formalities, police handed over the
body to relatives,” the OC said adding that an unnatural
death case was filed in this connection.

Executive Engineer of LGED at its Rangpur office Akhter
Hossain told BSS at 4:55 pm that body of Additional Chief
Engineer Afzalur Rahman was taken to his native Ratual
village in Raninagar upazila of Naogaon district from
Dinajpur this afternoon.

“Body of Engineer Rahman will be taken to Dhaka after his
first Namaj-E-Janaza to be held at his native village in
Naogaon tonight and be buried in the capital city after
another Namaj-E-Janaza tomorrow,” Akhter Hossain added.
