100pc electricity coverage by Dec: Nasrul

SHARIATPUR, Oct 11, 2018 (BSS) – State Minister for Power, Energy and
Mineral Resources Nasrul Hamid today said the government is working to ensure
electricity for all by December this year.

“We will reach cent percent electricity coverage by December this year
following the time-befitting directives of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina,” he
said while inaugurating sub-stations at Goshairhat and Bhedorganj upazilas.

Speaking as the chief guest, Nasrul said works continue to supply
electricity to the southwestern and southeastern parts of the country.

“The power demand in this region will increase more times after
construction of the Padma Bridge. The southern part of the Padma Bridge will
require 10,000 MW power in the next 10 years,” he said.

Later, the state minister joined a rally of civil society members, which
highlighted the government’s various development programmes, particularly the
activities of power and energy sectors.

He said the government, led by dynamic leadership of Prime Minister
Sheikh Hasina, is working sincerely to make the country a ‘Sonar Bangla’
dreamt by Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

Local lawmaker Nahim Razzak, district Awami League general secretary Anal
Kumar Dey, additional police superintendent Al Mamun Sikder, Goshairhat
upazlia chairman Syed Nasir Uddin, Upazila Nirbahi Officer RM Selim Shahnawaz
and president of upazila Awami League Shajahan Sikder, among others, spoke at
the function.
