AL leaders demand capital punishment for Tarique
RANGPUR, Oct 10, 2018 (BSS) – Local Awami League (AL) leaders hailed
the verdict of the August 21 grenade attack cases and demanded capital
punishment for the mastermind of the grisly grenade attack and Acting
Chairman of BNP Tarique Rahman.
Several thousand city AL leaders and activists AL and its associate
bodies brought out a huge ‘Ananda Rally’ from its office on the streets today
hailing the verdict.
Later, they joined a discussion in front of Press Club premises with
city AL President Shafiur Rahman Shafi in the chair.
Vice-presidents of city AL Shah Md Nabiullah Panna, Idris Ali and
Advocate Dilshad Hossain Mukul, its General Secretary Tushar Kant Mandal,
Joint General Secretary Nawshad Rashid, Women Affairs Secretary Aleya Khatun
Lovely, President of city Swechchasebak League Ataur Rahman Babu, its General
Secretary Ramjan Ali Tuhin, Convener of district Jubo League ABM Sirajum
Monir Basher, President of city unit Chhatra League Shafiur Rahman Swadhin,
General Secretary of city unit Mohila AL Ismat Ara Bonnya, among others,
addressed.
The speakers hailed the today’s verdict delivered by the 1st Speedy
Trial Tribunal a in the capital city sentencing 19 persons to death, 19
others including Tarique Rahman to life imprisonment and 11 other sot
different terms for August 21 grenade attacks that killed 24 people and
wounded nearly 500 in 2004.
They called upon the prosecution appeal before higher court against the
verdict delivered against Tarique Rahman after studying the full verdict
seeking capital punishment for him as the mastermind of the heinous August 21
grenade attacks.
Shafiur Rahman Shafi said common people expected capital punishment of
Tarique Rahman, demanded for filing appeal against the verdict delivered
against him and bringing Tarique Rahman back from abroad immediately.
