Daylong rainfall in Ctg disrupts civic life partially

CHATTOGRAM, Oct 9, 2018 (BSS)- Port city Chattogram as well as most part
of the district today experienced light to moderate rainfall under the
influence of the well-marked low formed over Southeast Bay and adjoining
North Andaman Sea .

The daylong shower resulted in serious disruption of civic life and a
huge portion of the city remained waterlogged due to rainfall and coupled
with river tide that worsened the sufferings of the city residents.

Pathenga Meteorological office said it has measured 86 mm rainfall in
last 24 hours ending 12 noon today.

The Met office also forecast further light to moderate rainfall in next
twenty-four hours in Chattogram and some other parts of the country.

Although daylong rain and tide of Karnaphuli River created serious
dislocation in normal life, the people in general heaved a sigh of relief as
season’s shower came as a blessing ending days of hot spell.

Transport problems caused untold sufferings particularly to the private
office goers and students. Rickshaw pullers and three wheelers were seen
demanding excess fare from the commuters taking advantages of the bad weather
and thin traffic.

Meanwhile, congestion of vehicles in some important city streets city
including Muradpur, Bahaddarhat, Sholoshahar were seen as the heavy onrush of
rainwater in those streets forced large numbers of mechanized and non-
mechanized vehicles remained stationery that increased suffering of the
commuters manifolds.

Most of the city streets and alleyways particularly in low-laying areas
even those in some upper parts of the city went under knee to waist-deep
water mounting sufferings of the people manifolds.

A large number of business establishments in Chaktai, Asadganj,
Badurtala, Bahadderhat, Halishahar and Nasirabad areas submerged with mud-
mixed rain waters caused damage to their valuables.

The long lasting rains created water logging in many city areas and some
comparatively lower parts of the city including Bahaddarhat, Chawkbazar,
Muradpur, Chandgao, Sulokbahar, Bakolia, Patharghata, Asadganj, Korbaniganj,
Chaktai, Nasirabad, Patantuli, Madarbari, Agrbad, Halishahar causing immense
suffering of the people living in those localities.
