KISHOREGANJ, Oct 9, 2018 (BSS) – President M Abdul Hamid today asked lawyers and others concerned to ensure that the general people can get their legal support easily at low cost.

“Consider the financial condition of the litigants before charging extra money . . . as all justice-seekers are not rich,” he said at a reception on the Judge’s Court premises here.

The head of the state also urged authorities concerned to reduce extra charges imposed on different legal aid services terming those as an extra burden for the poor litigants.

Kishoreganj District Judge’s Court Lawyers Association hosted the reception as Abdul Hamid paid his first visit to the district court of his home town after taking oath of office as the country’s President for the second consecutive term on April 24.

President Hamid, who had a long career as a lawyer before becoming the Deputy Speaker and Speaker of the Jatiya Sangsad (parliament), called upon all lawyers to abide by the rules and regulations of the law profession.

“We, the lawyers, exercise power indeed . . . but the misuse of power will not be accepted anyway,” he continued, adding, “We must uphold the public acceptance through our activities.”

Advocate Hamid also suggested that junior lawyers abide by the ethics and manners of the profession so that people get confidence in the counsels.

The President said a lawyer usually does not want to fight against another even if he or she is involved in a crime. “But come forward to give legal support to the litigants against the accused lawyer. Otherwise, no rule of law will be established. Law is equal for all.” President Hamid called upon all lawyers, irrespective of party, religion, caste affiliations, to maintain discipline and congenial atmosphere in the Bar Council to uphold its image.

President of Kishoreganj District Lawyers’ Association Advocate M A Rashid chaired the meeting.

Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Advocate Anisul Huq, Kishoreganj Zila Parishad Chairman Advocate Zillur Rahman, district sessions judge Md Mahbubul Islam and secretaries concerned of Bangabhaban were present on the occasion.
