Durga Puja preparations afoot in Rangpur division

RANGPUR, Oct 9, 2018 (BSS)-Preparations are continuing in full swing to
celebrate of the five-day Durga Puja, the greatest religious festival of the
Hindu community, with due religious solemnity in Rangpur division.

Beginning from October 15, the festival will end on October 19 next
through celebration of the Bijoya Dashami with immersion of the idols of
goddess Durga, officials and local leaders of Bangladesh Puja Udjapan
Parishad (BPUP) said.

Deputy Inspector General of Bangladesh Police for Rangpur Range Devdas
Bhattacharya said Durga Puja will be celebrated at 5,098 mandaps in Rangpur
division excluding Rangpur metropolitan city amid tight security measures
this year.

“Special security measures would be taken including deployment of police
forces along with members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB), Highway Police,
Ansar- VDP and community police to ensure peaceful celebrations of Durga
Puja,” he said.

Rangpur Metropolitan Police Commissioner Abdul Alim Mahmud said the Hindu
community will celebrate ‘Sharodiya’ Durga Puja at 166 mandaps in the
metropolitan city area.

“We have taken adequate steps to ensure peaceful celebrations of the
religious festivity in all Puja mandaps under all six police stations of the
city,” he added.

Police Super Mizanur Rahman said the Durga Puja festivity will be
celebrated peacefully at all mandaps amid tight and special security measures
in the district this year.

Rangpur district administration officials said a record number of 900
Durga Puja mandaps are being erected this time in eight upazilas, Rangpur
metropolitan city and three municipalities in the district.

Meanwhile, the artisans are passing their busiest time now to erect the
idols of goddess Durga and give finishing touches with their artistic
creativity and colours to make those more charming, attractive and beautiful.

Talking to BSS, artisans Shyamol Dutta and Manoranjan Paul at ‘Anondomoyee
Sebashram’ Mandir in the city said they are passing busiest time to complete
erection of the idols of goddess Durga.

They said they began erecting the idols of Mother Durga at 22 Puja Mandaps
in the city and adjoining areas since last month this year. “After completing
major works, we are working round the clock now to give finishing touches to
the idols with different colours to make those more charming and eye-
catching,” Manoranjan said.

Acting president of district BPUP Ajoy Prasad Babon and its General
Secretary Dhiman Bhattacharya said erection of the idols of Mother Durga were
continuing in full swing in all eight upazilas, Rangpur city and three
municipalities of the district.

They expressed satisfaction over the steps being taken by the district and
police administrations for ensuring peaceful celebrations of the upcoming
‘Sharodiyo’ Durga Puja festivities in the district.
